Why is it smart to check pot weight before buying if you live on an upper floor balcony?

Big ceramic or concrete pots look beautiful… until you try to move them on a fifth-floor balcony or realise your railing slab is now holding a mini rock garden. Weight matters more than people think.

On upper floors, you have two issues: safety and practicality. Too many heavy pots clustered together can put unnecessary load on one part of the balcony. Most buildings can handle normal use, but it’s still wise not to create a stone jungle in one corner.

Secondly, once a heavy pot is filled with soil and a grown plant, you won’t want to move it. If the sun direction changes, or you need to clean, or there’s seepage under it, shifting that beast becomes a proper task.

By checking weight while buying—and mixing in some lighter materials like plastic, fibreglass or lightweight ceramic—you keep your garden flexible and your balcony safer.
