How can scheduling a yearly check of all door locks keep them working smoothly?

Locks slowly stiffen over time—dust in keyholes, slight misalignment of frames, screws loosening. You only really notice when one day the key refuses to turn or the latch gets stuck at the worst moment.

If you pick one day a year to test every main lock—entrance door, balcony doors, room doors—you can catch early signs: key feels tight, handle feels wobbly, latch doesn’t align smoothly. A bit of lubrication, minor tightening or small adjustments at this stage can extend the life of the lock.

You avoid midnight emergencies like “darwaza band ho gaya, ab khul nahi raha.”
